COURSE OVERVIEW Professional Dramatic Writing is a foundational writing course for creators who want to understand the mechanics of entertainment storytelling and learn how to write dramatic material the way professionals do. Through a combination of lectures, readings, in-class writing, performance, and guided workshopping, students are introduced to the core principles of story structure, character development, and dramatic escalation. Over the course of the program, writers will create and revise multiple scenes and develop a complete short dramatic project, gaining hands-on experience with the full creative process—from idea to execution to revision. The emphasis is on clarity, craft, and process, giving students a strong foundation they can build on across mediums and throughout their careers.
